Clarence Otis “Buddy” Gay, Jr., age 96, died peacefully on Wednesday
morning, July 29, 2026, at his Medway home. Born in Medway on April 24,
1930, he was the son of the late Clarence Otis Gay, Sr. and Hilda
(Rosell) Gay
He was a 1948 graduate of Medway High School and was
married to Anne Lousie (Congdon) Gay in 1953. The couple settled in
Medway, where they made a loving home for their growing family.
After
many years employed as a tile layer for E.A. White and Son in Newton,
and as plant manager at Filfast Corporation in Holliston, most Medway
residents knew Buddy as a farm hand at Shady Oaks Farm in Medway, where
he retired in 1995, or as the janitor at Medway Town Hall where he
worked part time after retirement for many years. In recent years, he
was often seen walking about town with his beagle, Dottie.
Buddy
was a dedicated member of the Masonic community, including being a
charter member of King Philip Chapter, Order of DeMolay, Charles River
Lodge, AF&AM, Massachusetts Scottish Rite, and Quinobequin Chapter,
Order of the Eastern Star. An avid woodworker and home renovator, Buddy
is most remembered as a man who would do anything for his family.
Buddy
is survived by five children, Thomas A. Gay (Kathleen) of Medway,
Timothy A. Gay (Vickie) of S. Yarmouth, Ted A. Gay (Cheryl) of Medway,
Cara A. Lazzara (Matthew) of Deerfield, Wis., and Christy A. Tisdale
(Edward) of North Reading; 14 grandchildren, Adam, Andrew, Leanne,
Stacey, Sara, Carly, Everett, Courtney, Emma, Abigail, Clara, Noah,
Jane, and Simon; and 5 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Ayden, Ashton, Halle
and Cole; and many nieces and nephews. He was sadly predeceased by his
bloeved wife Anne(Congdon) Gay and daughters Cindy A. Teed in 1988,
Cheryl A. Gay in 2016, and Candace Gay White in 2024.
A private
family funeral is planned. If desired, donations may be made in Buddy’s
memory to the Scottish Rite Learning Center, 458 Newtonville Ave.,
Newton, MA 02460 or any of the Shriner’ Hospitals for Children.
