Defendant in Waters Murder has Second Court Date

William James Corbett O’Brian, the defendant
in the murder
of Franklin High School grad, Samuel Waters, appeared via Zoom in a pretrial conference at Attleboro District Court Thursday morning at about 9:30.

O’Brian’s court-appointed defense attorney asked the court to approve $3,000 for a forensic psychologist. “Isn’t that a little premature,” the judge shot back; suggesting that he wait first to see what the government report from Bridgewater State Hospital has to say about the defendant.

The defense attorney acceded to this suggestion. The judge then noted that the defendant and his attorney might next appear before the Superior Court but, for now, set a hearing date of July 27.

As this brief conversation between the judge and defense attorney wrapped up, the defendant, O’Brian, spoke up, “Excuse me, your honor, I have been asking to see my attorney for weeks.”

“He just said he will be coming to see you,” the Judge replied, and the court moved on to other matters.
